AFTER HOURS
Martin Scorsese
Scorsese's dark Comedy Neo-Noir masterpiece captures possibly the most undescribable atmosphere in cinematic history. A compelling story, crazy ass characters, great cinematography and a soundtrack that is beyond fitting: After Hours has it all, while barely exceeding 90 minutes of actual runtime (and 4.5 mil $ worth of budget).
Our protagonist passes through every imaginable situation that's remotely connected to misfortune and ends up in resignation after countless tries of finding a way home. His last money flies out of the window during a Taxi ride to Soho, the Subway toll is raised overnight, some burglars seem to have it too easy, while he is accused of committing their crimes and noone wants to believe him anything whatsoever. Prepare for one of the most obscure roller coaster rides there is and either feel sorry for Paul or laugh at his decision-making. This picture feels like a nightmare you don't want to wake up from and even if you would want to there is no chance: Those 97 minutes fly by like nothing.
